About Us

"Good fun. No pressure to be a good singer so can enjoy singing and being part of a group. Amazing how quickly you feel you have improved as the weeks go by. Made new friends as well. Always a bonus!"

Choir Sessions

We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm (but see the Choir News page for the current term dates and times). We sing from 7:15 to 8:15pm.

Come to the Quakers Meeting House on Cooper Street, labelled "Friends Meeting House" on Google maps.
You can see a map here

How Do I Join?

There is no audition or membership application, just come along on Wednesday evening and join in! We ask for a small donation every week to cover the cost of room hire etc. This is 2 at the time of writing.

What Do We Sing?

We choose songs which we enjoy singing and which are suitable for our level (enthusiastic amateurs!). Our songs can come from any era of the charts (e.g. "Mama Mia", "Africa", "Something Inside So Strong") or from musicals (e.g. "Rhythm of Life", "Get Happy").

How We Started

After being inspired by BBC2's The Choir, a small group including a conductor formed in late 2010 which ultimately became Stockport Community Choir

We wanted to do something positive in our local community and bring together people who might not normally meet. We knew that a choir would be fun and increase the self-confidence of everyone involved

Our Values

The values we discussed at our first meeting are still at the heart of our choir's character:

  • We are open to anyone: no auditions or experience are required to join
  • We practise singing together but also have a social aspect
  • We are run by volunteers and we encourage members to become involved in running the choir
  • We are affordable to all. We ask for a donation to cover our basic costs only
